Hong Kong s plan to lift entry bans for fully vaccinated residents and work visa holders from extremely high-risk areas will do little to help thousands of domestic helpers whose home countries inoculation records are unrecognised, employment agencies have said.
The plan, to be announced and implemented next week, will also allow unvaccinated Hong Kong minors studying in Britain, one of eight countries deemed extremely high-risk for Covid-19 by the local government, to return home for the summer holiday. ....

The Philippines top diplomat in Hong Kong has urged the city s government not to force domestic workers to get vaccinated, arguing that if the new rules apply for them, then all foreign workers should be made to get inoculated.
Consul General Raly Tejada made his comments the day after the Hong Kong authorities announced plans to require all 370,000 domestic workers to get vaccinated before their contracts can be renewed. Those applying for work visas from overseas will also need to get vaccinated first, with details to be made public later. ....

Domestic helpers in Hong Kong are reluctant to receive Covid-19 jabs because of worries about possible side-effects and the efficacy of vaccines, according to concern groups and an employers association.
The lukewarm response comes as authorities expanded the city s vaccination campaign by including the 370,000-strong helper community among the priority groups in the free inoculation programme this week.
Eman Villanueva, a spokesman for the Asian Migrants Coordinating Body, said on Tuesday that the hesitation on whether to get the shots was widespread among helpers. ....
