The genocide committed against Indigenous groups in America has been described as a topic of the past, however, this is a practice which has not paused since the arrival of the Europeans to this territory which we today call the American continent. 
The recent government actions against indigenous populations demonstrate this, as it occurs in countries like Brazil and Colombia. At the same time, people look to claim their rights and resist through a diverse set of strategies that range from direct protest in the streets to the defense of their culture and thought via quotidian acts, pedagogical, and performative acts on Western culture. ....

Colombia: State terror won’t stop the struggle

Since April 28, workers in Colombia have been waging a general strike. The strike was provoked by the third of three recent tax “reforms” imposed by the right-wing government of President Iván Duque. The new taxes squeeze workers at both ends, by raising taxes on personal income and charging sales taxes on basic food items.

This creates tremendous hardship for Colombian workers, whose average monthly pay is equal to around $310 well below the worldwide average and less than typical monthly rent for a three-room apartment in the capital of Bogotá. (quora.com) While workers will see their taxes go up by as much as 500%, Duque has cut taxes for transnational corporations and plans to spend billions of workers’ tax money on new jet fighters. ....

Format
The Inter-Ethnic Alliance for Peace Activity strengthens Indigenous and Afro-descendant communities’ advocacy, self-governance, organizational and leadership capacities. The activity also improves food security, supports income generation activities, and promotes regional peacebuilding in alignment with the Peace Accord’s Ethnic Chapter. The activity is implemented by two of the most relevant Indigenous and Afro-descendant organizations in Colombia, the National Association of Displaced Afro-Colombians (AFRODES) and the National Indigenous Organization of Colombia (ONIC). The Inter-Ethnic Alliance for Peace Activity is implemented in Cesar, Chocó and La Guajira, and it runs from January 2021 to December 2023.

Like so many Indigenous people in Colombia, Luis Fernando Arias suffered acutely from the armed conflict that tore his nation apart for decades. Paramilitary fighters in 2001 rolled into his community and killed his grandfather. Three years later they killed an uncle of his and threatened his father, forcing his family to flee to the capital, Bogotá. ....
