The Oklahoma Air National Guard will conduct a large-scale readiness exercise at the 138th Fighter Wing in Tulsa beginning on June 1, according to a press release.
A large-scale readiness exercise is an Air Force mandated exercise to evaluate and train Airmen for deployment.
It is a tool that measures how efficient and capable units are at deploying aircraft, equipment and personnel to a forward location in response to a short-notice contingency tasking, and then operate and sustain those forces in a combat environment.  ....

The federal government arms local police forces in the United States with weapons of war. A program called “1033,” for the section of the act that created it, allows the Department of Defense to give state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies military hardware. Since its inception in 1996, nearly 10,000 jurisdictions have received more than $7 billion of equipment. This includes combat vehicles, rifles, military helmets, and misleadingly named “non-” or less-lethal weapons, some of which have featured in police raids and police violence against protesters, including recent protests for racial justice.

Two recent Black Hawk helicopter crashes that killed six Army National Guard soldiers have reawakened concerns in Congress that systemic safety issues in U.S. military aviation are causing unnecessary non-combat casualties.
On Jan. 19, three New York Guard aviators died when their UH-60 Black Hawk medevac helicopter went down just south of Lake Ontario near the city of Rochester. Two weeks later, three Idaho National Guard soldiers died when their UH-60 crashed in rugged, mountainous terrain near the state capital of Boise. ....
