Last year, on a cold February morning, I sat in my kitchen reading a troubling story. One of my professional heroes, the first Black female physician in the United States, a woman who overcame remarkable odds in a field dominated by men during the 19th Century, laid in an unmarked grave. Her fight against sexism, racism, and intolerance over a century ago paved the way for the women physicians of today to follow in her footsteps. Astonishingly, Dr. Rebecca Crumpler’s final resting place did not reflect the fact she changed the course of history. ....

After the all-male (and largely white) faculty lineup at the Heart Failure 2021 virtual meeting from Los Angeles drew ire on Twitter, organizers made swift changes.
Both program directors and all 23 speakers originally scheduled to lecture at the small subspecialty symposium March 12-13 are men.
Gentleman, it s 2021 and there are soooooo many women in heart failure for this entire conference to be all men. Do better, Nasrien E. Ibrahim, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, tweeted on Wednesday with pictures of the then-current faculty list.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Wednesday is National Women Physicians Day and WDAM caught up with one doctor in Hattiesburg who shared her inspiring journey in medicine.
Dr. Lara Otaigbe said she always wanted to go into medicine.
âI always enjoy taking care of other people I guess,â Otaigbe said. âI see myself as a helper and a carer, and so I think itâs just been a natural pathway for me.â
And it took time and hard work to get where she is today â owning and practicing at two clinics. She grew up in Nigeria where she went to school before her journey brought her here. ....
