PDS produces social media tech framework for police

Topics
The Police Digital Service (PDS) has launched a procurement framework for social media management and engagement technology for policing, blue light services and local authorities.
It has named Orlo (SocialSignIn) and Softcat, in partnership with Salesforce, as the suppliers, and said the framework will help police forces control all their corporate social media channels in one place in a safe, secure and auditable way.
It should also help them to meet nationally agreed standards for social media management aligned with the National Policing Digital Strategy, and support the work of the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s (NPCC) lead for social media and digital engagement, Surrey Police Chief Constable (CC) Gavin Stephens, in developing a target operation model (TOM) for the integrated use of social media across forces. ....

Police Digital Service and techUK announce partnership

Topics
The Police Digital Service (PDS) and IT industry association techUK have announced a strategic partnership agreement.
It has been put in place to increase industry awareness of the remit and objectives of the two organisations among the policing and supplier communities, and to support a more transparent and accessible market for technology in policing.
techUK said it is aimed at producing more strategically aligned, collaborative, relational and sustainable commercial arrangements between the police and the IT industry, in which they develop requirements and solutions together.
The announcement was made late last week, on the day that the PDS was formally launched in an evolution from its predecessor, the Police ICT Company. In an interview with UKAuthority, its CEO Ian Bell said the move came from the need for an organisation to help police forces deliver the National Policing Strategy. ....

Introducing the Police Digital Service

Today (01 April 2021), marks the launch of the
Police Digital Service (PDS), the new identity for the Police ICT Company. This represents far more than a name change; the organisation will have a broader remit and the resources to drive significant changes in policing.
History
The Police ICT Company was established in 2015 with the aim of supporting law enforcement agencies in England and Wales to make the best use of technology to deliver efficient and effective policing. It was intended to create a bridge between the policing, technological and commercial worlds, as well as helping cut the cost of police ICT, reduce duplication, and improve collaboration. ....

A plan to change the name of PICTCO – which provides technical advice and delivers services to UK police forces – to the Police Digital Service is still being formalised, but Bell and Parkes set out a number of its priorities. ....
