National Voters’ Day observed in Rajshahi division 233 RAJSHAHI, Mar 2, 2021 (BSS) – The National Voters’ Day-2021 was observed in Rajshahi division as elsewhere in the country today in a befitting manner aimed at spreading awareness among the youth on democracy, election and voting rights. Marking the day, 25 new voters including some transgender were given smart cards aimed at ensuring their basic rights. To mark the day, a discussion meeting was held at Rajshahi Regional Election Office in the morning with a call to encourage the common people to cast votes for strengthening democracy in the country besides highlighting the importance of the day.

At a programme in the Nirbachan Bhaban, Mahbub said voter turnout dropped alarmingly whenever Electronic Voting Machines were used. He also said local government elections have turned into "a model of irregularities" due to polls violence, grabbing of polling centres, and vandalism of EVMs. Immediately after the election commissioner's speech ended, the CEC went straight on to the stage and started criticising Mahbub.
