COVID-19 by the numbers
New Mexico health officials yesterday reported 186 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 188,664, with the health department designating 168,191 of those as recovered. Bernalillo County had 72 new cases, followed by Doña Ana with 31 and Luna County with 17. Santa Fe County had 10 new cases. Yesterday s new cases track with the state s weekly modeling report forecast s middle-case scenario.
The state also announced seven additional deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities statewide to 3,860. As of yesterday, 137 people were hospitalized with COVID-19.
The weekly modeling report also calculates New Mexico s vaccination rates are now lowering COVID-19 daily incidences by more than 60%. As of yesterday, the health department s vaccination dashboard reported 29.2% of New Mexicans 16 and older have had at least one dose and 17.3% have been fully vaccinated. ....

Proposals to change Wisconsin’s voting system could determine how one of America’s top swing states picks congressional candidates, how it awards its 10 Electoral College votes, how fast results can be announced and who can use the increasingly popular method of absentee voting.
But the political divisiveness that caused Wisconsin to flip from red to blue by the slimmest of margins in the 2020 presidential race will likely continue, stymying all but the few changes that enjoy bipartisan support. A Republican-led Legislature and a Democratic governor mean that purely partisan priorities are unlikely to make their way through, experts told Wisconsin Watch. ....
