Chinese self-driving startup WeRide valued at 3.3 bln USD--China Economic Net


Chinese self-driving startup WeRide announced Thursday that it has closed a Series C round of funding, giving it a valuation of 3.3 billion U.S. dollars.
 
The company did not disclose the exact amount of the latest funding, saying that it was in the hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars.
 
 
Tony Han, founder and CEO of WeRide, said the latest investment in autonomous driving came after the company began the trial operation of a self-driving Robotaxi service in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou and further unveiled its self-driving Mini Robobus.
 
The startup will expand its team size, continue the research and development and commercialization innovation of autonomous driving technology, and launch large-scale autonomous driving services as soon as possible, Han said. ....

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana State University is honoring graduates of the Class of 2020 who were affected by the pandemic.
The university issued a Thursday, May 13 news release that said members of the Class of 2020 that would like to participate in an in-person ceremony will be welcomed back to campus to attend in-person graduation ceremonies Friday, May 14. The Class of 2020 will be recognized in a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. and a ceremony at 11 a.m., both taking place in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. ....

Marymount Returns to In-Person Commencement


Marymount University’s commencement weekend is underway and is back to being an in-person event.
The university held last year’s ceremony virtually due to the pandemic. This year’s commencement will feature a trio of notable speakers: former Virginia Department of Education Secretary James Dyke Jr. on Friday, Black Entertainment Television co-founder Sheila Johnson on Saturday, and former Washington Post publisher Don Graham on Sunday.
Undergraduate and graduate students will be grouped by their college at the university for the first time as part of the proceedings, which are taking place on the athletic field at the university’s main campus near Washington Golf and Country Club. ....
