Tax revenue growth, federal aid may boost bottom line of new state budget

Hoosier lawmakers working to craft the new, two-year state budget ahead of an April 29 deadline likely will have additional money available to spend on education, teacher pay raises, and myriad other state needs or wants.
Data released last week by the State Budget Agency show both sales and individual income tax revenue in January and February considerably exceeded the expectations set in the December 2020 revenue forecast.
February sales tax collections, largely reflecting January purchases, totaled $695.2 million, which was $62.4 million, or 9.9%, greater than the revenue forecast, according to the State Budget Agency.

Universities across the United States are identified in this report for activities ranging from directly managing laboratories that design nuclear weapons to recruiting and training the next generation of nuclear weapons scientists. Much of universities’ nuclear weapons work is kept secret from students and faculty by classified research policies and undisclosed contracts with the Defense Department and the Energy Department.  ....

Climate change (S 2296)
The House, 145 to 9, and the Senate, 38 to 2, approved and sent to Gov. Charlie Baker a 57-page climate change bill. A key section makes the state’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal net zero by 2050.
“This bill steps up the pace of our collective drive to contain climate change,” said Sen.
