Boeing posts smaller loss as aircraft deliveries rise

Boeing has reported a core operating loss of $353m in the first quarter, compared with a loss of $1.70 billion a year ago
Boeing has today reported a smaller quarterly loss as increased 737 MAX jet deliveries reflected a cautious rebound in air travel from the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the embattled US planemaker took a charge on its Air Force One presidential aircraft programme.
But optimism in a resurgent US domestic travel market is offset by growing concerns over Covid variants in India and elsewhere, clouding the industry s recovery.
Boeing has delivered more than 85 737 MAX jetliners, out of a backlog of hundreds of jets, since it was cleared by most regulators to re-enter service late last year following two fatal crashes. ....

Boeing reports Q1 loss and another hit on Air Force One programme


Boeing Co. reported a wider than expected first-quarter loss on Wednesday and took another charge on its programme to build two new Air Force One presidential planes after firing a contractor it hired to help perform the work.
The company did not provide a timetable for fixing the latest problem with its 737 Max jet, an electrical issue that has forced airlines to park more than 100 of the planes.
The combination of self-inflicted damage and a coronavirus pandemic that has depressed demand for new planes pushed Boeing to its sixth straight quarterly loss. However, CEO David Calhoun said the company is at an “inflexion point”, with an increase in vaccinations against COVID-19 raising hopes for a rapid recovery in air travel that could translate to aircraft orders. ....
