Veterans continue to question Darnall vaccine rollout


The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center resumed COVID-19 vaccinations Wednesday for people whose second dose was due in February, but one veteran said he was recently turned away from receiving his scheduled second dose.
“I took the first shot on the 8th of February,” James Anderson, of Killeen, told the Herald Wednesday. “I was supposed to take the second one on the 1st of March. I went on the 1st of March and there was no vaccine.”
Now, Anderson said, he wonders if too much time will pass between his first and second shots, if he doesn’t get it soon. ....

Air Force Academy IT in dire need of upgrades, superintendent says -- FCW

The Air Force Academy s IT infrastructure is in such dire need of modernization that its accreditation could be in jeopardy. That s what Lt. Gen. Richard Clark, the academy s superintendent stressed during a House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee hearing on March 2.
Our IT is woefully behind where we need to be a provider of cyber excellence, Clark testified. Right now we have needs for immediate funding for this year, unfunded requirements, plus we need money into the [Program Objective Memorandum] because our network is not the same network the broader Air Force uses. We are on a .edu whereas the Air Force is on a .mil. ....

Presidential Rank Awards are back -- FCW

The Presidential Rank Awards are back in 2021, after a one-year hiatus. The awards pay significant cash bonuses to recipients in the Senior Executive Service and individuals in senior level and scientific or professional (SL/ST) positions.
An announcement from the Office of Personnel Management, which administers the awards, said that the resumption represents the Biden administration s commitment to supporting the federal workforce and recognizing federal employees who serve with distinction.
The program was established by the 1978 Civil Service Reform Act, and there are multiple tiers of awards. Distinguished Rank awardees can receive a cash award amounting to 35% of their base salary. Such recipients cannot comprise more than 1% of the career SES or SL/ST workforce. Winners of the Meritorious Rank awards are eligible for a cash award of 20% of their base salary. No more than 5% of the senior workforce can be recognized with this distinctio ....
