Charles County Public Schools Celebrates Classes of 2021, Graduates Offered Over $157 Million in Scholarships | Southern Maryland News Net

The Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Class of 2021 will be honored this week during outdoor graduation ceremonies set for May 28 and June 1-3 at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf. The Class of 2021 is the first graduating class to participate in outdoor graduation ceremonies at the stadium.
In prior years, seniors graduated in ceremonies planned for the Convocation Center at North Point High School. Due to COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, CCPS was excited to offer an outdoor opportunity for graduating seniors this year.
The Class of 2021 includes 2,007 graduates who earned a record number of scholarship offers totaling nearly $158 million. The total is likely to increase as graduates report scholarship offers to their respective high schools. First in the CCPS high school graduation schedule is St. Charles High School at 9 a.m. on May 28. ....

Charles County Public Schools Updates Plan for Graduation of 2021 Class | Southern Maryland News Net

Elements in the plans have evolved for Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) high school graduations on May 28 through June 3 at Regency Furniture Stadium.
As of May 20, students will receive five guest tickets to graduation, along with two parking passes. One parking pass is for a space at the stadium, the other is for a spot at neighboring St. Charles High School. Guests are not permitted to park along the street or on the access road between the stadium and the school.
This being a school-sponsored event, guests must wear face masks when entering the stadium. Those who arrive without a mask will be given one at the gate. Once guests arrive at their seats, they may remove their masks or keep them on depending on their comfort level. Social distancing is encouraged between groups of guests. ....

Maryland Art Education Association (MAEA) Recognizes Five Charles County Art Teachers as Outstanding Educators | Southern Maryland News Net

Five Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) art teachers were recently recognized by the Maryland Art Education Association (MAEA) as outstanding educators.
The association named three teachers as CCPS Career Art Educators of the Year. They are Kristina Blakeslee of Maurice J. McDonough High School; Christine Chinault of Malcolm Elementary School; and Gayle Kraus of Piccowaxen Middle School.
Christin Downie of the Robert D. Stethem Educational Center and Caroline Metcalfe of Indian Head Elementary School were named CCPS Novice Art Educators of the Year by the MAEA.
Blakeslee has been at McDonough for 10 years where she teaches freshmen through seniors in Art 1, Painting 1 and 2, Ceramics 1 and 2, sculpture, and advanced placement art and design. She also teaches art classes to students in the ACHIEVE program. “I love seeing my high school students apply the skills and concepts they’ve learned to amaze me,” Blakeslee said. “They are all so unique ....
