Joshua Clark Named Charles County Public Schools Teacher of the Year for 2024

Joshua Clark, a Spanish teacher at Henry E. Lackey High School, was named the recipient of the 2024 Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Teacher of the Year honor during a Feb. 22 recognition ceremony. The event, held at St. Charles High School, honors nominees for the 2024 Washington Post Teacher of the Year and CCPS Teacher of the Year award programs. This year, there more than 40 nominees and six finalists.

On May 25, 2023, at 9:20 a.m., a School Resource Officer (SRO) was notified that a 16-year-old student sent a private message on social media to another student, which contained a threat to commit mass violence at Mattawoman Middle School.

Toy Gun Resembling Real Gun Recovered at Middle School: On May 4 at 9:30 a.m., a student informed a school staff member at Mattawoman Middle School that another student brought a possible gun to school and was showing it to other students. The gun was discovered to be a Splatrball gel gun, which has an orange tip, but could be mistaken for a real gun. The student faces disciplinary consequences from the Charles County Public Schools. Parents are urged to speak with their children about the dangers of possessing weapons or items that could be construed as weapons on school grounds.
