Thurrock Tory's delight after retaining control of council in vote

The election was held in 17 of the borough’s 20 wards.
The results mean the Conservative party is in overall control of the council, while the Labour party maintained 16 seats, gaining one and losing one.
The Conservative councillors now number 29, with 28 seats being held and one seat being gained.
The Thurrock Independents also held on to their seats, maintaining three councillors.
There was one other independent who held their seat, while another candidate lost theirs. In total in the borough, the overall turnout was 27.34 per cent.
The Tories held on to stronghold seats such as Aveley and Uplands, Belhus, Orsett, Ockendon, Stanford-le-hope West and Stanford East and Corringham Town. ....

THIS seat flatters to deceive. Lots of parties fancy their chances but the reality check is the 2019 result where Shane Hebb won by 608 votes.
Terry Piccolo has had a difficult year (logistically) as Mayor. It has not been the year he would have wanted and maybe he is keen to go back to the back bench.
Terry was the classic community activist who took the next logical step and so he will be keen to get back to local ward politics.
It will be a good night for the Thurrock Independents if they poll over 300. In fact there polling will be worth watching all over the borough. ....

THE last time this reporter made a prediction about Carl Morris winning, we predicted he would win the General Election seat of Thurrock in 2010 by 1100. He lost by 92. He has never forgiven us. Never.
It would be good to see Carl back in the chamber. A former mayor and a big best of local politics.
He is now aged 64 but if Joe Biden can be President then why can’t Carl Morris be leader of Thurrock Council?
He brings a political dynamism and shrewdness that would leave the Tories reeling.

It wasn’t the same and The Tories won this seat by over 600 votes.
Fresh faced Oliver Smith stood in 2018 and he is standing again.
Whilst most of the Thurrock Independents seem to be cast from the same perpetually angry mould, Oliver does seem to bring something fresh and energetic to the table.
When he talks about being there for the good of the people, you believe him.
