UK job adverts soar in April as business confidence booms

The number of new job postings is soaring as the UK tiptoes its way out of the pandemic, according to new data from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation.
During the week of 5-11 April, a further 140,000 new job openings were recorded, giving a total of 1.37 million active adverts in the UK.
This is on top a further 181,000 in the previous week, which was the highest weekly figure since the Covid crisis began. ....

Tharsus adds former CEO of Dyson to its board

Robotics company Tharsus has appointed former Dyson CEO to its board as a non-executive director this week.
Martin McCourt, whose career spans four decades, is set to help the company match the growing appetite for robots and automation. 
“Having dedicated over 40 years to manufacturing design and marketing for leading British brands, I am excited to join Tharsus’ leadership team to support the company on its growth journey,” McCourt said.
Once CEO of Dyson for 15 years, McCourt was responsible for building the company from a single product, single market producer. ....

IoD appoints new chair
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed a new chair after a thorough search process, who will step into the role next Monday.
Patrick Macdonald is set to take the helm from interim chair John Watson, after he joined in September 2020.
The chair of the IoD’s Nomination Committee, Jean Church, said: “After a rigorous selection process, we were delighted to appoint Patrick. I would like to thank John Watson for stepping in as interim chair last year and helping to lead the IoD during the last seven months.” 
Watson, who navigated the board’s response to the pandemic, will remain as part of the IoD Board when the new chair starts. ....

Exclusive: London financial advisory Apis hires team from PE firm Actis

Cairo-based Hossam Abou Moussa will join Apis as a partner, together with two other investment professionals.
As a result of the recruitment drive, Apis will now have 30 financial services professionals and staff, who collectively manage or advise on roughly $1.3bn in third-party commitments and investments.
The move means that Apis will expand its presence into seven countries across Europe, Africa and Asia.
