Adair County, Kirksville to receive about $8 million in federal relief
The City of Kirksville and Adair County will soon receive millions of dollars in federal aid. 
As part of the American Recovery Plan, nearly $350 billion is being allocated to state and local governments to address economic fallout from the pandemic. Missouri is receiving $2.7 billion, with another $2.5 billion going to city and county governments. 
Here, Adair County will receive $4.9 million and Kirksville will get $3.2 million. For other Adair County towns, Brashear should get almost $48,000 and Novinger should get almost $80,000. Those figures are based on population. That money will be disbursed in two increments, with one coming soon and the second a year from now. According to a White House Fact Sheet on the legislation, the funds can be used to:  ....

Scott Williamson picked as next Kirksville Police Chief
Scott Williamson has been selected as Kirksville’s next Chief of Police.
The city announced the move on Tuesday with a press release. According to that release, Williamson serves as a lieutenant with the Kauai Police Department in Lihue, Hawaii. He was worked there since 2008. 
He has also experience working patrol, investigations and community relations.
“This is an important position for the City of Kirksville, our department, and our community. I believe Scott will bring a mix of experience and skills with a natural sense of how to work with others, and a proven record of community outreach,” said City Manager Mari Macomber in the release. ....

Kirksville City Council plans to have vacancy filled by early next week
The Kirksville City Council plans to have its vacancy filled by next Monday.
That process was outlined at the end of Monday’s regular City Council meeting, with current councilmembers looking over applicants for the next few days.
Monday marked the deadline for interested citizens to apply for the position and four did. Those four are Kabir Bansal, Diane Treece, Jennifer Walston and Richard Kaiser.
The councilmembers will get sealed ballots where they will order the candidates as they see fit. Those sealed ballots will be given to City Clerk Wanda Cagle, who will then tally up the totals. As was mentioned Monday by City Manager Mari Macomber, those votes should be completed by Wednesday. ....

Applications open for Kirksville City Council vacancy
Applications are now available for citizens interested in filling the vacancy on the Kirksville City Council.
Those applications can be found online at Kirksvillecity.com/CouncilApp and physical copies are located at the City Clerk’s Office inside City Hall. The process opened on Monday and the deadline to submit applications is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Monday, May 5. 
In addition to the application, there is a statement of interest that must be filled out in the presence of the City Clerk or Deputy City Clerk. The statement of interest and application must be turned in to the City Clerk.  ....
