Brenda Sue Fulton, the chief administrator of the Motor Vehicle Commission, said the agency has overhauled its technical infrastructure to help move the vast majority of transactions online. Not that things are rosy, now – far from it. Not when six to 12 agencies are closed due to staff quarantines on any given day, Fulton told the state Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee on Thursday. COVID will delay those seeking to restore their driver’s license Updated Feb 17, 2021; Drivers who are dealing with the state Motor Vehicle Commission on license suspension and restoration issues may face some problems getting those issues resolved after employees in that office tested positive for the coronavirus. Specifically affected is the MVC’s Uninsured Motorist business unit in the commission’s headquarters building in Trenton, where employees from that unit are currently quarantining until March 1, officials said. No other units at the Trenton headquarters are have been affected. Because of this necessary safety precaution, the unit’s operations which includes, driver’s license suspensions and restorations, will be “heavily impacted,” MVC officials said. Customers generally don’t interact with that unit in person. ....
Jersey City MVC agency latest closed by COVID Updated Feb 10, 2021; The state Motor Vehicle Commission’s Jersey City agency became the latest to be closed Wednesday due to an employee testing positive for the coronavirus. The Jersey City vehicle center will remain closed until the facility is sanitized, contact tracing and any quarantining done and is scheduled to reopen on Feb. 24. Jersey City is the second MVC agency to close this week after the Turnersville Vehicle Center closed Monday due to an employee testing positive for the coronavirus. That brings the total of closed agencies to four statewide out of 39 in the state. ....

MVC agency coronavirus closures spill into 2021 Updated Dec 21, 2020; Another state Motor Vehicle Commission agency closed until after the New Year and the shut down of a second was extended on Monday after employees at both locations tested positive for the coronavirus. The North Bergen Licensing Center closed after an employee who was last in the agency on Friday tested positive for COVID-19. The agency is scheduled to reopen on Jan. 2, MVC officials said. The Wayne Licensing Center will remain closed until Dec. 31, due to an additional employee testing positive for COVID-19, That requires more time for staff to quarantine, officials said. ....
