Blenheim boasts one-of-a-kind track for radio-controlled racers


Around 150 participants will bring their radio controlled cars to Blenheim this weekend for the national championships on a new track.
In just six weeks, working every spare minute, Bevan Burney​ and a few helpers created a one-of-a-kind mini racing track to host a national radio-controlled car championship in Blenheim.
The new track at Riverlands will host the 2021 1/8 New Zealand Radio Control Nationals this weekend, March 11-14, when some 150 drivers and pit crew will descend on the venue to test their skills against one another.
Burney worked on the 280m track five weekends in a row, putting in time “a lot of nights as well,” and said it s “absolutely the most challenging track in New Zealand”. ....

Beavers return to Dorset for the first time in 400 years


Beavers have been reintroduced to Dorset for the first time in 400 years, a wildlife trust has revealed.
A pair of adult male and female beavers were introduced into an enclosure in the west of Dorset on Monday.
The pair will live in a large area of freshwater habitat not accessible to the public which can be continually monitored by wildlife experts. 
Rivers conservation officer Steve Oliver said welcoming beavers back to the county was fantastic .
He said besides being magnificent creatures in their own right they were extra special because their engineering activities have the potential to bring even more life to a landscape and enable other species to flourish . ....
