Dependable Highway Express Electrifies California Operations

Dependable Highway Express (DHE), a freight operator, has completed several electrification initiatives to further reduce the climate and air quality impacts of its Southern California freight operations.
Through the Volvo LIGHTS project, DHE introduced charging infrastructure to its Volvo VNR Electric Class 8 trucks, battery-electric yard trucks and forklifts. To further solidify DHE’s ongoing efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations, DHE has signed a letter of commitment to purchase an additional 10 Volvo VNR Electric trucks in 2022.
“DHE is a prime example of a fleet leading the path towards sustainable freight movement,” says Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America. “DHE’s partnership has been critical to the success of the Volvo LIGHTS project over the past two years. Trucking Takes Steps Toward a Zero-Emission Future

A regulatory framework for electric-powered trucks has begun to emerge, primarily at the state level.
In June, California’s Air Resources Board approved the state’s Advanced Clean Trucks regulation, which mandates that 5% of all Classes 7-8 tractors sold be zero-emission vehicles starting in 2024. That percentage increases with each new model year, rising to 40% by 2032. The rule also includes rising zero-emission sales mandates for light-duty commercial vehicles and medium- and heavy-duty straight trucks.
California also is one of 15 states, plus the District of Columbia, that has signed an agreement to work together to advance the electric truck market, with a goal of achieving 100% zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty truck sales by 2050. ....
