'Lion' Mother Sue Brierley Insists Mothering is a Role to Be Shared, Ahead of Mother's Day – Hope 103.2

Lion, focusing on son
Sue has now written a book called
Lioness, detailing the untold story of her own childhood, and she talked to Hope Breakfast about how it shaped her own experience of motherhood.
Sue had a difficult start to life, raised in the Tasmanian hinterland by a violent father and traumatised mother. However, she believes her childhood better equipped her to relate to the hardships faced by her two sons, Saroo and Mantosh, who were adopted from India as young boys, by her and her husband, John.
“I knew very early on that a lot of children have a very difficult start to life,” Sue said.

Listen: Librarian Nicole Yule recommends three war-based books in order to reflect this Anzac Day weekend
Librarian Nicole Yule shared on Hope Breakfast with Sam Robinson some suggestions for books to read this Anzac Day weekend that will help you reflect on the World Wars, and those who served.
War Horse by Michael Morpurgo
Nicole suggests sitting down with this famous book, which has also been turned into a film, and also a stage show on West End with quite amazing puppetry.
War Horse is an amazing story which is quite unique in that it is told from the horse’s perspective. It is about Joey, the horse, and his owner Albert, who is a young boy at the start of the novel. When World War I starts Joey the horse is sold to the army by Albert’s father to become a war horse. Albert promises him he will try and find him again one day. Joey serves during the war both in the Calvary, in pulling ambulances and in moving artillery and sees both sides of the war when he ends up being owned both by the Allies and some German soldiers.

Listen: Author Belinda Murrell chats with Hope Breakfast's Sam Robinson about her new book 'The Golden Tower'
Sydney-based author Belinda Murrell’s new book about a girl stuck in a tower, is inspired by Narnia, strong women, and even COVID-19 lockdown.
The Golden Tower is an exciting novel for kids – where a sarcastic cat takes young Sophie hostage, in a fantasy world where horses fly. Belinda told Hope Breakfast that creating such a world took inspiration from one of her favourite childhood book series.
“One of my inspirations was [The Chronicles of] Narnia,” Belinda said. “It was that idea of a world that was filled with magic, mystery and wonder. Talking animals and magical creatures, and that a normal every day kid like Sophie could step through this doorway or portal and go into this magical world and have all these adventures that are really dangerous, that you couldn’t actually have in the real world.”

Podcaster and TV Host Marc Fennell Steps Into the Spotlight as 'Mastermind' Quizmaster – Hope 103.2

Host of
Download This Show, and the ABC podcast
Stuff the British Stole, it’s surprising that he’s found any time to pick up a new role as quizmaster on the new season of
Mastermind on SBS. If you’ve never heard of the show – which has been on air since 1972 in the UK – it’s a fairly classic quiz format.
As Marc told Hope Breakfast, the show was first created from an interesting point of inspiration.
“If you’ve ever seen it, it’s a very serious show, and there’s a good reason for that. The guy who created it, he was interrogated by the Gestapo [during World War II],” Marc said.
