State lawmaker wants police officers taught how racism, 'ignorance' prevent them from doing their jobs fairly

A state lawmaker who represents the city’s West Side introduced legislation Monday that would require all police officers in Illinois to be schooled on the intersection of law, race and racism in the hopes of teaching officers “the culture and the lifestyles of different communities and people.”
“If we want to change the behavior of police, we have to educate them,” state Rep. La Shawn Ford said.
The West Side Democrat said requiring officers to be taught critical race theory is about “tackling racism” and “becoming aware of our very own shortcomings and ignorance about our peers.” ....

Gov. J.B. Pritzker vows to share reopening plan in 'next few days' that will protect Illinoisans and the economy

Gov. J.B. Pritzker plans to expand coronavirus vaccine eligibility to all Illinois residents over 16 except Chicagoans starting April 12, and initiate a new “bridge” phase as part of his plan to reopen the state, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The governor is expected to make the announcement at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Thompson Center.
Chicago receives its own federal vaccine allotment and sets its own eligibility rules. City Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said Wednesday that “most Chicagoans” could get in line for the vaccine by March 29, with an expansion to those over 16 with underlying conditions and targeted groups of essential workers. ....
