Peters Set for Town Exit Wednesday, 18th Jul 2012 10:55 Town’s longest-serving player Jaime Peters looks set to leave the Blues this summer with manager Paul Jewell confirming that the club are looking to terminate the Canadian international’s contract. Peters was left out of the squad for the pre-season tour of Holland along with striker Nathan Ellington, who Jewell says still has time to resurrect his Town career. Jewell said: “We’ve only got so many places [on the tour], we can’t take everybody. Jaime Peters, I think he knows the club are looking at possibly terminating his contract. He needs to go and play some football.” ....
Jewell: No Repeat of Contract Situation Friday, 27th Apr 2012 07:00 Manager Paul Jewell has reiterated that he wants to get the players whose contracts are up next summer committed to new deals sooner rather than later. The Blues boss is determined to avoid the situations which have occurred in the last two seasons with players’ deals allowed to get into their last six months. Jewell said: “I think it’s important with the younger lads who have got a year to go on their contracts that, as Peterborough brutally said, ‘you either sign up, or we sell you’. “This time next year I don’t want this again. I’ve had it for the last two years and it’s pretty boring. I was bored of you asking questions a long time ago!” he joked. ....
Murphy: More Goals Needed Friday, 8th Mar 2013 14:41 Town may boast one of the Championship’s best defensive records in recent weeks but Daryl Murphy agrees there is room for improvement when it comes to scoring goals. Mick McCarthy’s team have conceded just four goals in their last seven games but they have also failed to score on the same number of occasions. They did net four times in last month’s home win over Middlesbrough but that was an isolated occasion and Town remain the Championship’s lowest-scoring team with just 35 goals scored in their 38 games to date. Murphy said: “We’ve not scored as many goals as we’d want. The back five have been fantastic and what was our weak point at one stage is now our strength, but it’s up to the strikers and the midfielders to chip in with a few goals. ....
Jewell Weighing Up Changes for Bristol City Clash Thursday, 1st Mar 2012 14:08 Town boss Paul Jewell says he’s weighing up whether to change his team for Saturday’s home game against Bristol City in the wake of last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion. The Blues have named an unchanged side for their last three matches. Jewell said: “I always consider the team but I think we’ve got to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water. “We didn’t think everything was rosy in the garden after we’d won four games, but also just because we’ve lost one game it doesn’t mean to say we’ll have to make wholesale changes. But we’ll consider everything.” ....
Town 1-3 Wigan Athletic Saturday, 7th Feb 2004 21:40 Yet another dismal home performance saw the Blues to a 3-1 defeat against upwardly mobile Wigan Athletic. Goals from Jason Roberts, Nathan Ellington and Gary Teale put the Latics three-up before Shefki Kuqi netted a consolation for Town. Tommy Miller recovered from his thigh injury and lined-up in the midfield with Jermaine Wright replacing Fabian Wilnis at full-back. Pablo Couñago and Chris Bart-Williams returned to the eleven after missing out at Coventry last week, Georges Santos dropping to the bench with the Blues moving back to 4-4-2. Former Town loanee Alan Mahon made his debut for Wigan and received a warm welcome from the Town support when his name was read out prior to the kick-off. ....
