St. Anthony Chief Medical Officer Previews Topics Discussed In Recorded COVID Town Hall To Be Released Today

He also talked with a different patient who had been infected with COVID-19 prior to getting the first vaccination. They reported getting quite ill with that first dose and were hesitant to get the second because they fear it will be worse.
He says generally patients are able to get through the adverse side effects with acetaminophen. There is, however, a specific timeline for getting that second dose. Typically, patients are called back after three weeks with the Pfizer vaccine and four weeks with Moderna. These timelines can be pushed to about six weeks before the patient will have to start over at step one. Topics such as these, an in-depth discussion on herd immunity and more will be presented in the pre-recorded town hall that can be accessed by following the link included below. The full interview with Dr. Ulveling can also be found here. ....

Iowa COVID-19 vaccine appointments hard to find as eligibility opens

Des Moines Register
Iowa entered the final stage of its COVID-19 vaccination schedule Monday, opening eligibility to all of the state s more than 2.3 million residents who are 16 or older.
With that expansion comes a new ratcheting up of demand against a still limited supply of vaccine doses.
Available Hy-Vee appointments filled up within about an hour of opening across the state on Monday morning, company spokesperson Christina Gayman said.
Carroll County Public Health Director Nicole Schwering wrote in an email that their 100 doses of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine were snatched up just as quickly. By the afternoon, half of their 300 first-dose shots of Moderna were likewise accounted for, she said. ....

Carroll County Phase 1B Of COVID-19 Vaccinations To Begin This Week, But Don't Call Them! Healthcare Providers Will Call Those Eligible | CBC Online

Carroll County has received an additional 500 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine as we move from phase 1A to phase 1B this week. Dr. Kyle Ulveling, Chief Medical Officer at St. Anthony Regional Hospital, explains that front-line healthcare workers in the region received the first and second doses of the Moderna vaccine while long-term care facility residents and staff received Pfizer’s. As we transition into phase 1B this week, he says they are looking forward to some good news on additional vaccines being FDA approved.
He expects at least one of those to be approved in the next month. Doubling the number of manufacturers, he says, will help alleviate one of the biggest issues with the rollout, and that is a shortage of doses. On Monday, the Iowa Department of Public Health issued a notice that the United Kingdom variant of COVID has appeared in Iowa. Ulveling explains they are being told the vaccines will protect against this new strain. But there are others coming to li ....
