NIN registration, COVID-19 and our health

Someone, alarmed by the unthinking directive of the Nigeria Communications Commission requesting Nigerians to immediately obtain the National Identification Number from the lethargic National Identity Management Commission and link it to the Subscriber Identification Module of their mobile telephones in just two weeks, sent in this text message:

“The NIN centres are potential (COVID-19) superspreaders given the resulting desperation. Please, please, let the world know what the government is doing to the people by this totally unnecessary crisis at this time.” ....

From afar, his long puzzled face was conspicuous. At noon on Friday, Boniface Ani and his wife, Doris, had spent over six hours at the Alausa centre of the National Identity Management Commission in Lagos, waiting for a miracle to happen in an attempt to get their National Identity Numbers.

After writing their names on a list provided by the NIMC officials, they were told to return in February for capturing as there was a backlog of previous applications on the rack. ....
