Newton officials investigate letter sent to school employee as hateful act

Newton school officials said they are investigating a hateful letter sent late last month to a Brown Middle School staff member of color whose job includes developing Black History Month lessons in the building.
The letter was directly addressed to the Brown staff member, who picked it up in his school mailbox. Inside the envelope was a small note that consisted solely of the letters “ALM” in large block letters, which school officials said stood for “All Lives Matter.” It did not have any signature. The staff member received the message Jan. 29. ....

NOBLE VILLAGE BOARD MEETING

(NOBLE) The Noble Village Board met this past Monday night in regular session. The Board : approved a sewer rate increase – a $1.00 price hike on the first 1,500 gallons and a $1.00 increase on each 1,000 gallons thereafter : noted that the Village has received approximately $7,400 from the Rebuild Illinois program to be used for street and/or sidewalk maintenance by July 2025 : noted that the Village received funds from the CURES COVID-19 Relief program for reimbursement of employee wages : noted that Village employee Ethan Craig is scheduled to attend a Wastewater course later this spring at a cost of $575 plus per diem expenses : noted the Noble Easter Egg Hunt has been cancelled : is asking that all ground decorations be removed from the Noble Cemetery by March 31 : and approved the payment of all bills as presented : the next regular bi-monthly meeting for the Noble Village Board will be March 8, 2021. ....

(LOUISVILLE) The Clay County Soil and Water Conservation District is taking orders for its spring fish and tree sales. The fish sale includes nine different species available with the deadline to order Grass Carp set for March 4th. All other species, Channel Catfish, Albino Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Fathead Minnow, Crappie, Hybrid Sunfish, Bluegill, and Redear, can be order through March 12th with the delivery date set for the 18th at 12:00 noon. The tree sale includes a nice selection of evergreens and hardwoods to choose from. The evergreens include White Pine, Blue Spruce, and Norway Spruce. The hardwoods include Red Maple, Tulip Poplar, Pecan, Bald Cypress, Red Oak, and Black Walnut. The tree orders will be taken until March 26th or until supplies last with the tree delivery set for April 5th. The fish and/or tree orders can be made by calling the Clay County SWCD office in Louisville at 618- ....
