A Ladysmith High School graduate recalls her opportunity five years ago, when she led a guided tour for a very important individual who would one day be sworn in to the second highest elected office and the nationâs first female Vice President.
Andrea White-Kjoss, is the daughter of Karla Lingen of Ladysmith and Robert White of Sarona. A Ladysmith native and Class of 1992 graduate, she had the honor of giving the ceiling-shattering future Vice President of the United States a tour of the Mobile Education Center at the Friends of the Los Angeles River facilities. A recent study of 100 large cities in the United States conducted by financial advisory website WalletHub found that Long Beach is the second best city in California to start a business.
Irvine took first place, Fresno came in third.
“It’s a wonderful tribute to the city’s efforts and overall its assets and resources that it has for building and growing companies,” said Andrea White-Kjoss, executive director of the Long Beach Accelerator, which focuses on attracting and supporting tech companies. ....

A new startup accelerator in Long Beach, the
Long Beach Accelerator, said this week that it has launched its very first class of startups. The accelerator is being run by Sunstone Management, the City of Long Beach s Economic Development Department and California State University Long Beach s Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CSLUB IIE). The accelerator said the startups include three companies based in Long Beach, which will participate in a 3.5 month program involving workshops, guidance from experts, and mentoring from each startup s specific industry sector. The LBA is a partnership between Sunstone Management, the City of Long Beach’s Economic Development Department and California State University Long Beach’s Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CSLUB IIE). The inaugural cohort members represent a strong group of diverse founders, industries, geographies and verticals, including 3 companies based in Long Beach.
