HC Orders Virtual Hearings Till May 15 In J&K, Ladakh ‘Lawyers Not Required In Premises’
SRINAGAR: Amid “alarming surge” in COVID-19 infection cases, Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal on Monday ordered that filing as well as hearing of cases in the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir as well as in the District and Subordinate Courts and Tribunals shall be conducted through Virtual Mode till May 15.
As per an order, the Chief Justice has directed that the entry of litigants, public and clerks of the Advocates into the Court premises from the very outer gate shall be strictly prohibited in both wings of the High Court.

JAMMU, Apr 23: Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Rajnesh Oswal today expressed serious concern over the failure of the Government to overcome the acute shortage of doctors in the rural areas of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir even after repeated directions during the past three years.
Moreover, the highest court has sought to know what steps have been initiated by the Health and Medical Education Department so far or being contemplated so as to check reluctance on the part of freshly recruited doctors in providing services in the rural parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Virtual hearing of cases in courts in J&K, Ladakh extended till April 30
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir High Court extended by the end of this month its order regarding virtual hearing of cases amid surge in covid-19 upsurge.
“After taking note of the rising trend of Covid-19 Infection cases and the prevailing situation due to the spread of such infection, the High Court order No. 189 of 2021/RG dated 05.04.2021, is extended up to 30th April 2021,” reads an order by Registrar General, Jawad Ahmad.
The April 5 order was issued by Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and by virtue of it, the hearing of cases in the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir as well as in the District and Subordinate Courts and Tribunals shall be conducted through “virtual mode” only.

Jammu Tawi, April 16: A delegation of lawyers practising in Jammu Courts today apprised the Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Justice Pankaj Mithal at Jammu about the issues concerning the lawyers and members of public concerned with the court proceedings.
The lawyers submitted a memorandum enumerating their demands for urgent redressal by the chief justice. The lawyers apprised the chief justice on the practical difficulties of virtual hearings in place of physical hearings while observing the SoPs in all courts. According to the delegation Convener Advocate HC Jalmaria, the Chief Justice gave the delegation a patience hearing and assured to consider the issues projected. The important demands put forth in the memorandum included restoring physical hearings instead of virtual hearings in all courts; dropping of the proposal of shifting of High Court from Janipura to Raika; restoring Court Timings for six months in Summer Zone areas from 8 a.m to 1.30 p.m; Elections to J&K Bar Council; dropping Contempt proceeding against four young lawyers; Vaccination of Lawyers at Court Complex; easy availability of stamp papers in the court complex; restoring Registration of Documents work to Judicial Officers; Opening of Closed Consumer Courts; Opening of Human Rights Commission and Opening of Accountability Commission etc.

Srinagar, Apr 5: The High Court today put an end the work of Committee of Experts (CoEs) who were appointed to oversee and supervise the affairs the development of Dal lake and directed the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) to handle all the issues pertaining to the lake under the supervision of Advocate General of the UT.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul directed for disbanding of all such committees henceforth which were constituted and appointed on the directions of the court or else for the affairs of the lake.

Jammu and Kashmir High Court has put its order earlier regarding resumption of physical hearing in abeyance amid a spike in Coronavirus cases.
During the last week, J&K has witnessed a surge in the Corona cases.
As per an order by Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal, the hearing of cases in the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir as well as in the District and Subordinate Courts and Tribunals shall be conducted through virtual mode for time being.
