The Anchors in Resilient Communities (ARC) collaborative was founded in 2013 to figure out how Bay Area anchor institutions like hospitals could aggregate their purchasing power to transform the health, wealth and climate resilience of the East Bay. Over the years, that work evolved to address challenges presented by large-scale food procurement. And that process now has a home: the Union City Culinary Center, which opened this January about 20 miles south of Oakland. The center is a large-scale food production facility vendors supply raw ingredients, and the facility produces up to 50,000 meals daily for distribution to hospitals, schools, universities and retail customers throughout Northern California. It’s the result of years of collaboration between ARC, the center’s owner and operator FoodService Partners, and anchor institution Kaiser Permanente, which has a goal to purchase 100 percent sustainable and local food by 2025. ....
Premium Content Subscriber only Ben Scott has been playing the strings on his cello since he was in Year 3 at Andergrove State School. “I remember my mum asking me what I was thinking, because it was so big and fragile,” Ben said. “But I fell in love with the cello and my love has not faltered.” Mr Scott is now all grown up with plans to study a Bachelor of Music at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music this year. THE lockdown rules for the Borders in Level 4 have been outlined in a joint statement from NHS Borders and the council. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on Saturday (December 19) that the Borders – along with every other area on the Scottish mainland – will be moved into the highest level of restrictions from one minute past midnight on Boxing Day. The Level 4 move will last for at least three weeks. Over recent years, arts-based interventions have helped in a wide range of crisis situations, being recommended to support the workforce during and after complex crisis but there has been no systematic review of the role of arts-based crisis interventions and whether there are cogent themes regarding practice elements and outcomes. We, therefore, conducted a systematic review to (i) define the arts-based change process used during and after crisis events, and (ii) explore the perceptions of intermediate and long-term mental health benefits of arts-based interventions for professionals in caring roles. NHS Borders has issued a warning about the new strain of coronavirus. In a press statement at 11.54am today (Monday, December 21), the region’s health board said “everyone must be aware” that it is “possible” the new strain of the virus is in the Borders. A spokesperson for NHS Borders said “further detailed testing is required to confirm whether or not there have been cases of the new variant of coronavirus in the Scottish Borders”.
