Oregon City High School official convicted of self-dealing appears to provide comments for herself in a defense purportedly written by athletic director.
The Oregon City High School equestrian coach who was recently convicted on violations of state law related to self-dealing appears to have written portions of the athletic director s investigatory report that led to the school board s decision not to fire her.
State officials have already said it was alarming that no red flags were raised for the school district in its consideration about whether to retain Angie Wacker as coach. OCHS Athletic Director Andy Jones investigative report provides evidence for just how many school officials missed several potential warnings. ....

Upgrading technology can help lawyers comply with ethics rules

Upgrading technology can help lawyers comply with ethics rules

Lawyer Megan Zavieh speaks Friday at an ABA Techshow 2021 session titled “Tech Ethics in a World Molded by the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
Lawyers seeking to comply with their ethical duties would be wise to upgrade a wide variety of technology services they utilize, attorney Megan Zavieh said during an ABA Techshow 2021 session Friday.
Home internet, online payment software and cloud storage tools were among the areas in which Zavieh recommended attorneys pay for enhanced products.
She said the upgrades would help attorneys ensure they adhere to their duty of client confidentiality and comply with the general principle stemming from the ethics rules that they use secure technological platforms. Additionally, paying for business-level services could assist lawyers in meeting their duty of technological competence. ....

Ikea faces being stripped of Living Wage status as its ethical mask slips

FLAT-PACK furniture giant Ikea faces being stripped of its Living Wage Foundation (LWF) accreditation after refusing to raise its lowest rates by just 20p an hour.
LWF-accredited employers have until May to comply with the £9.50 minimum introduced in November, but Ikea, whose online sales rose by nearly a third during the pandemic, has already indicated that it will not do so.
Ikea remained listed as a “principal partner” on the LWF website today, where a statement from the Sweden-based transnational said: “We are proud to pay the real living wage and view it as a worthwhile investment in our people.” ....

Meet 8 former Biden aides working at huge companies.

They re all massive companies that employ former staffers to President Joe Biden.
At least eight major corporations employ staffers who worked for Biden during his decades as a senator, vice president, and presidential candidate, according to an Insider analysis of staff lists, social media, and employment databases. The companies all have significant business before the federal government.
The diaspora of former Biden aides to powerful companies isn t surprising, given the president s long track record in Washington politics. Unlike President Barack Obama and Donald Trump, Biden spent decades in Washington before becoming president, and his new ethics pledge doesn t necessarily limit lobbying by his vast network of former aides who were close to him 10 or even 20 years ago.  ....

The Day - Montville Housing Authority Commission member resigns, questions practices - News from southeastern Connecticut

Montville Former Housing Authority Commission member Sierra Davis resigned on Dec. 30, 2020, saying commissioners had become too involved in the day-to-day operations of the authority, among other motivations for her departure.
Some town officials were alarmed by Davis’s resignation and by her follow-up message on Jan. 3, 2021, which is more specific about why she resigned. Montville’s housing authority complex locations are Independence Village Elderly Housing on Milefski Drive in Uncasville and Freedom Village Elderly Housing on Liberty Road in Oakdale.
Davis s initial resignation letter says the lack of an executive director had been hurting the housing authority, which had been without one since 2019. She said it concerns her “that we have no one on-site to support residents and the position has not been filled since July 2019 even with the mayor and senior services requesting” it. She adds that “residents have complained and continue to complain.” ....
