Bernard Okumagba to head reconstituted NDDC Board

Bernard Okumagba to head reconstituted NDDC Board
The Nigerian government has reportedly constituted a new board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The members of the newly constituted board have been appointed into various offices in a bid to douse the threats and complaints from sons and daughters of the Niger Delta region.
The new board members amongst others include; Bernard Okumagba from Delta State as Chairman of the Board, Samuel Nduku from Bayelsa State as Managing Director, Effiong Okon Akwa who is the Sole Administrator as Executive Director Finance and Administration.
There has been tension between the Nigerian government, represented by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, headed by Godswill Akpabio and foremost voices in the region, including ex-agitators. Just recently, Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) threatened the Nigerian government to constitute a new board or risk the return to hostilities in the region.

Our lawmakers cannot initiate change, they're strangers to us, Nigerians lament

•They’re benefiting from the corrupt govt system
•Engage in meaningless discussions, centred on their own needs
•They’re rubber stamp NASS, timid, lethargic
•Nigeria is bleeding, govt must rise to the occasion
•We need the president, not presidency to address us, answer questions

Following unceasing agitations for self determination by some sections of the country, the presidency recently argued that only lawmakers as the representatives of the people have the mandate to effect whatever change they desired in the country.

By Chioma Onuegbu, Uyo
The Niger Delta Youth Movement, NDYM, has called on the presidency to give a timeline for publication of the result of the forensic audit of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
NDYM which spoke weekend in Uyo through its National President, Mr Joe Jackson, lamented the delay over the probe of the interventionist agency which was ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
Jackson expressed concern that failure to make known the result of the forensic audit soon could lead to renewed agitations and criticisms regarding the agency.

Youths in the Niger Delta, under the aegis of Niger Delta Youths Movement, NDYM, have raised alarm over the prolonged forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development commission, NDDC, which started in October 2019.
They called on the presidency to give a timeline when the ongoing audit would be concluded in order to forestall renewed agitation.
The National President of the group, Mr Joe Jackson, in a statement in Uyo on Friday, pointed out that the people of the region had already started getting worried.
He stressed that the presidency should give a timeline when the people would expect the results in order to ease the tension and avert renewed agitations regarding the operations of the NDDC.
