TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - It has almost been one year since travel restrictions along the U.S./Mexico border went into effect due to COVID-19. Since then, businesses in border communities have had to adapt just to stay afloat.
This is the case for several businesses in Nogales that greatly rely on border traffic to make a profit. The Nogales Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce said foot traffic since the restrictions went into effect has dropped by 75 percent, a drastic decrease one business is seeing at its restaurant. ....

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A Nogales man survived COVID-19 when all odds were against him, and now he has a message he hopes will make a difference.
“I don’t feel lucky, I feel blessed that I recovered like this,” Armando Tapia. “I could have been another statistic.”
Fifty-year-old Armando Tapia had many grim moments during his fight against COVID-19. His asthma made fighting the virus extremely difficult, and soon he had pneumonia.
“Things just started getting worse from there. My fever wouldn’t go down. 104.6 fever and my lungs failed,” he said. ....

ICE removes Mexican fugitive wanted in Sonora for possession for military firearms
PHOENIX, Ariz. –U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), removed Miguel Donato Aviles-Yocupicio, a Mexican national wanted in his country for carrying firearms and being in possession of firearm cartridges, on Dec. 29.
On Oct. 15, 2019, the Sixth District Court in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, issued an arrest warrant against Aviles-Yocupicio. The warrant alleges he carried firearms and firearm cartridges designated for the exclusive use of the Mexican military.
Aviles-Yocupicio came into ICE custody on Nov. 30 after Phoenix Police arrested him for possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia. On Dec. 16, an immigration judge granted him voluntary departure under safeguards to Mexico. ....
