Larimer County reports 22 new COVID-19 outbreaks

Larimer County reported 22 new outbreaks this week — down from 25 the last week — and all but one had five or fewer cases. The overall number of active cases dropped as well, to 109.
Outbreaks newly reported this week included five assisted living and nursing facilities, three middle schools, two car dealerships, a domestic violence shelter and one elementary school.
This week’s largest outbreak was at City Park Church, 1725 W. Mulberry St. in Fort Collins. The church reported seven cases — two staff and five attendees — to the county. The outbreak was reported to the state on May 11.
Calls to the church seeking comment were not returned.

In Massachusetts and elsewhere across the country, there is insufficient senior housing, and what exists is usually too expensive. Far too often, institutional housing options for elders lead to impersonal living conditions for residents and impersonal working conditions for staff — to the detriment of both. Those working conditions, combined with low pay, have created a shortage of people who want to work with elders, particularly those trained to staff the nation’s nursing homes. At a median salary of just $13.14 per hour, the certified nursing assistants in this country are expected to provide care every day to sometimes as many as 30 frail elders. It’s no wonder that there is high turnover and a dearth of employees to care for our nation’s elders.

Larimer County COVID-19 outbreaks climb; 9 schools see new infections

Larimer County saw 28 new outbreaks of COVID-19 in the state's latest report, one of the highest weekly totals since the pandemic began. However, the number of cases associated with each outbreak remains relatively small.
Of the 28 new outbreaks, 10 are at schools and child-care centers. The state defines an outbreak as two or more cases at a site within a 14-day span.
There are now 106 active outbreaks in Larimer County with 4,077 people testing positive; 374 outbreaks have been resolved since the pandemic began, according to county and state data reported on Wednesday. Excluding Colorado State University, which has had 2,894 reported positive cases since October, the county lists 1,183 cases associated with outbreaks since the start of the pandemic.

Larimer County reports 21 new COVID-19 outbreaks, including 2 daycares

Twenty-one new COVID-19 outbreaks brought Larimer County to its highest number of active outbreaks since January, though outbreaks continue to trend smaller in size.
Outbreaks newly reported this week included two daycare centers, an elementary school, two middle schools, and two long-term care facilities. There are now 86 active outbreaks in Larimer County, according to county and state data reported on Wednesday.
The biggest outbreak newly reported this week was at Webber Middle School, 4201 Seneca St. in Fort Collins, with nine cases among students and one case among staff and an onset date of April 12. Bill Reed Middle School, 370 W. Fourth St. in Loveland, appeared on the list this week with seven cases among students, two cases among staff and an onset date of April 6.

COVID-19 Outbreaks Explode Colorado April 2021

The numbers released by the CDPHE on April 7, however, reflect 626 active and 3,787 resolved outbreaks, adding up to to 4,413 — a leap of 127 outbreaks, and more than a 69 percent increase in a week, to the highest weekly total since January 27, as the state was working through the remnants of a holiday surge.
Given the overall rise, it's no surprise that several major outbreak categories saw increases this week. Fresh outbreaks at twelve K-12 schools had been included on March 31; fifteen popped up on April 7. Twelve outbreaks at health-care facilities were announced on March 31 and again on April 7, but nine of the latest are at facilities that cater to vulnerable seniors, as opposed to six a week earlier. There are eight more outbreaks at retailers, led by the giant Costco complex in Westminster seen at the top of this post.

See More Than 200 New Colorado COVID-19 Outbreaks December 2020

For the fifth consecutive week, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has added more than 200 new entries to its list of outbreaks related to COVID-19, and an increasing number have tallied death tolls higher than since the early days of the pandemic.
An extreme example is Windsor Healthcare, a skilled-nursing facility in Weld County. The CDPHE has confirmed sixty positive staff cases, 85 positive resident cases and seven resident deaths.
The CDPHE considers an entity an outbreak after two or more COVID-19 cases among residents, staffers or other people connected to a specific location are confirmed within a fourteen-day period, or two or more cases of respiratory illness with an onset of symptoms within a fourteen-day period are paired with at least one additional COVID-19 diagnosis. The vast majority of businesses and facilities identified as outbreaks remain open while working with the department to monitor symptoms and prevent future infections.
