Innovate UK to launch £2.5 million competition for creative industries

Non-departmental public body Innovate UK will invest up to £2.5 million in innovation projects from UK businesses in the creative sector.
The Creative Industries Fund will look to support micro and small businesses with a “package of targeted support for growth”, competition details explain.
Ensuring businesses can “reach their potential”
Micro and small businesses have suffered badly during the pandemic.
A report from business insurance firm Simply Business reveals an estimated 234,000 SMEs have already ceased trading amid the coronavirus crisis. The total cost to UK small businesses could exceed £69 billion, the report adds.
The support on offer from Innovate UK aims to ensure micro and small businesses can “reach their potential”. The package will include funding up to £25,000 and ongoing support from Innovate UK EDGE, a dedicated arm of the body focused on helping SMEs. ....

.- The collection of decorative arts and design at the Boijmans is to have a new custodian and exhibition creator. The former Groninger Museum curator Sue-an van der Zijpp is making the switch to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam this summer.
Sue-an van der Zijpp (b. 1971) takes up her post on July 1st as the new curator of Decorative Arts and Design, taking over the baton from Mienke Simon Thomas, who has served in this role since 1993 and is now retiring. In her role at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Van der Zijpp will be working on the development of exhibitions. In addition she will care for the museum’s collection of Decorative Arts and Design, a treasure trove that ranges from medieval earthenware to creations by Viktor & Rolf. ....

.- Bringing the maelstrom of plastic pollution to a halt requires us to think outside the box: How do you eventually break down what you are producing right now? On April 8, Dutch art Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen launched ‘The Breakdown Economy’, a bio-based response to the pollution of the fossil-based economy. This online exhibition proposes an about-turn in economic thinking: Not growth, but balance in nature.
You can now make a virtual visit to the online exhibition ‘The Breakdown Economy’ till December 31st 2021. At the invitation of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Studio Klarenbeek & Dros and the artists’ collective Atelier Van Lieshout present a vision for an alternative production chain. One is realistic; the other is provocative. In addition, designers Koehorst in ’t Veld have created a graphic install ....
