The national tournament is back, starting Thursday in St. Louis, after last year’s lost season due to COVID-19. It’s unlikely the Garden State will enjoy a similarly glorious weekend, but there is still plenty for the state to be excited about. Contenders: These wrestlers could make it to the final round and win national titles. Sebastian Rivera, Rutgers (141): The Jackson native and Christian Brothers champion should roll into the 141-pound semifinals as the weight’s 3-seed. That’s when the tournament really starts for Rivera. He will likely get a much-anticipated rematch with Penn State’s Nick Lee, who edged him in a thrilling sudden victory win in the Big Ten semis. Rivera will need to reverse that result, then likely knock off Iowa’s top-seeded Jaydin Eierman to win the national title. He is New Jersey’s best shot at gold this year.
