GLOVERSVILLE – Members of the Common Council are consulting the city’s labor attorney Bryan Goldberger on the crafting of a “No Confidence” resolution for 2020 Republican mayoral candidate and current city Councilman-at-large William Rowback Jr.
Council members Monday, however, said they doubt the resolution will be ready for Tuesday night’s council meeting.
“I’m 99.99 percent sure it won’t happen, because we’re dealing with a lot of things and this one has been pushed out for a couple of weeks,” said Marcia Weiss, 1st Ward councilwoman.
Second Ward Councilman Arthur Simonds, a Republican, called for the “No Confidence” vote concerning Rowback during the council’s July 13 meeting after Rowback told the council he did not intend to follow any of the recommendations from the Special Investigation Committee formed in January to probe allegations that he had ....

The city Common Council voted 6-0 Tuesday night to authorize the borrowing of up to $2 million for emergency repairs to restore electric power to the Gloversville-Johnstown Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Mayor Vince DeSantis described the accident at the sewer plant as “a disaster” that needs to be addressed “immediately, right now they’re operating much of the facility with generators.”
Sixth Ward Councilman Wrandy Siarkowski, a seven-year veteran member of the joint sewer board in charge of the wastewater facility, Tuesday night said the sewer plant started experiencing “rolling blackouts” sometime on Thursday. He said sewer plant officials brought in a consultant familiar with the plant’s early 1970s vintage power lines, which run through old Orangeburg pipes made from layers of ground wood pulp fibers, a type of piping in use before PVC pipes. ....

FULTON COUNTY  The Fulton County Democratic Committee has announced its endorsement of all 16 of the Democrats running for office in the county, including for the first time incumbent Gloversville Mayor Vince DeSantis and Johnstown mayoral candidate Michael Rose.
The move to endorse all of its local candidates for the 2021 elections stands in contrast to the committee’s choice not to endorse DeSantis or former Gloversville Councilman-at-large Steve Smith during the special election in 2019.
“[Sixteen] local Democrats running for office this November have received the unanimous support of the Fulton County Democratic Committee,” reads a news release statement attributed to Fulton County Democratic Chairman Ed Jasewicz. ....

On Saturday, Lashawn Hawkins, candidate for city councilperson-at-large, did one of the things she’s best known for in Fulton County, conducting a peaceful “SAY HER NAME Breonna Taylor” memorial protest at the Four Corners in Gloversville.
The event marked the one-year anniversary that Taylor, 26, an emergency room technician, was shot to death in her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky by police officers conducting what has been described as a botched drug raid. After forcing entry into her apartment, police exchanged gunfire with Taylor’s boyfriend, who survived and was not criminally charged, but she was killed by police in her bed. Her family has since settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the city of Louisville for $12 million, but her story did not initially receive the national attention it would gain later in the summer after the polic ....
