Haverford School's Quinn Luong is Main Line Student of the Week


A junior at The Haverford School, Quinn Luong is the co-founder of the Pan-Asian Alliance, and was recently elected as the co-chair of the Diversity Alliance on campus. Luong received a Certificate of Accomplishment from the Princeton Prize of Race Relations recognizing the important work the Pan-Asian Alliance has done to foster positive race relations and to make Haverford a diverse space that connects and educates students. He is also a recipient of the School’s Thomas Allerton Newhall Memorial Prize. Luong is a member of Haverford’s Model UN team, and won Best Delegate at the Johns Hopkins Model UN Conference. He is the news editor of the School’s newspaper The Index and received a Silver Key in Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for his journalism piece. Luong is a member of the school’s Glee Club and is a member of Haverford School’s cross country team and the track and field team. SAN LUIS OBISPO – The City is releasing an “after-action review” report of the response by the San Luis Obispo Police Department to a protest on Jun. 1, 2020 to the community. The City Council along with the City Manager requested the Police Department to examine its response to the use of tear gas on protesters, who had entered the US 101 freeway and blocked several downtown streets. The City Council is expected to discuss the report at its Feb. 16 meeting; the public is invited to review the staff report and after action report ahead of time.
After action reviews are a common tool used by police agencies following a significant incident to document the response and provide a foundation for community dialog. “It’s important for the Police Department, the community and the City Council to fully understand all aspects of this major incident. Republican Leaders Accuse the National Museum of African American History of 'Bias' in Its Display on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas

A freshman Republican lawmaker from Florida has accused the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture of bias and dishonesty in the way it presents the story of Justice Clarence Thomas in a display about the Supreme Court.
In 2017, the museum added the display, which presents information on Thomas and Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court Justice. It includes a photo of Thomas as a college student, a photo of him assuming his position at the court in 1991, and a copy of
Jet magazine featuring him on the cover. A display text gives a biography of Thomas and compares the two men’s judicial philosophies, explaining that Thomas identifies himself as an advocate for “judicial restraint,” and for the “original intent” of the writers of the Constitution. ....
