PPL building budding readers in Lock Haven | News, Sports, Jobs

PPL’s Cover to Cover program recently paid a visit to the Lock Haven YMCA Susquehanna Avenue Childcare site with free books for Pre-K students. Cover to Cover started in 2016 to provide elementary school students with books to help them maintain their reading skills over the summer. The COVID-19 pandemic shifted book distribution to Pre-K facilities this year. WVIA public television assisted remotely with students learning about various animal habitats, completing an activity, and receiving a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog, part of the WVIA programming lineup. To date, the PPL Cover to Cover program has reached about 8,500 students and distributed 33,000 books in over 25 schools in its service area in central and eastern Pennsylvania. With a winter storm packing a wallop, here's what you need to know


The first major snowstorm of the winter season is expected to hit Northeast Pennsylvania through Thursday, bringing with it the possibility of at least a foot of snow.
A winter storm warning from the National Weather Service goes into effect at 1 p.m. Wednesday, ending Thursday at 10 a.m.
Here’s what you need to know:
Uncommon before Christmas
National Weather Service meteorologist Adam Gill said to expect snowfall to begin Wednesday  between 3 and 5 p.m.
Predicted to intensify overnight, he said the storm could bring 2 to 3 inches of snow per hour at its peak before tapering off into the morning Thursday. ....

What you need to know about first major snowstorm of season


Here’s everything you need to know.
Snowfall accumulations: 12 to 18 inches
Temperatures: Wednesday’s high is 31 degrees and the overnight low is 22 degrees.
Wind: East to northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph may cause blowing snow and isolated power outages.
To report a power outage: PPL customers can text “outage” to “TXTPPL” and UGI customers can call 800-276-2722.
Safe practices: Clear snow or ice accumulation from the outside vents of your appliances to prevent a build-up of carbon monoxide in your home, UGI spokesman Joseph Swope said.
Snow should be cleared around natural gas meters to provide a path for professionals who may require access. ....
