House Republican Gives up Honorary Degree After School Was Pressured to Revoke It

House Republican Relinquishes Honorary Degree Following Student Petition
House Deputy Minority Whip Tom Cole (R-Okla.) voluntarily gave up an honorary doctorate from his alma mater on Jan. 12 after a student petition called on the school to rescind the award.
Cole, who joined some 120 House Republicans in challenging electoral votes from states where election integrity was under question, graduated from Grinnell College in 1971. He was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree by the Iowa-based private liberal arts college in 2016.
In a public letter, Grinnell College President Anne Harris said Cole contacted her and “voluntarily relinquished” his honorary degree; she revealed that the college leadership was considering taking it back from the congressman. ....

Congresswoman Removed From Harvard Advisory Committee Over Election Fraud Claims

Congresswoman Removed From Harvard Advisory Committee Over Election Fraud Claims
Rep. Elise M. Stefanik (R-N.Y.) has been removed from a senior advisory committee to Harvard University’s Institute of Politics because of her decision to challenge the presidential election results last week.
Stefanik, a Harvard alumni, was among the congressional Republicans who rejected the certification of Electoral College votes from states where election integrity has come into question. Joined by six senators and some 120 representatives, she refused to sign off on electors from disputed states unless their legitimacy was proved by a 10-day emergency audit.
In a letter sent to members of the committee on Tuesday morning, Harvard Kennedy School Dean Douglas W. Elmendorf said that Stefanik’s removal was due to her claims of election fraud, rather than “political parties, political ideology, or her choice of candidate for president.” ....

North County U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik’s alma mater, Harvard University, removed her from its Institute of Politics’ Senior Advisory Committee Tuesday, saying her false allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election “have no basis in fact.”
Stefanik, part of the Harvard undergraduate Class of 2006, responded Tuesday that the college was “bowing to the far-left.” In the past she has used the term “far-left” to include a wide range of Democrats and progressives, including President-elect Joe Biden. ....

Live updates: House Democrats release report in support of impeachment

As the House of Representatives attempts to remove President Donald Trump from office after last week s attack on the U.S. Capitol, the president criticized the impeachment effort, calling it ridiculous.
Trump, who visited the Texas-Mexico border today, defended today the remarks he made to his supporters at a rally before the Jan. 6 riot.
“People thought what I said was totally appropriate,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, the House is expected to vote tonight on a resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to use the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove Trump. The House is also preparing for a possible vote tomorrow on whether to impeach Trump for a second time.  ....
