KU To Hold On-Campus Classes For 1st Semester Students From Mar 22

SRINAGAR: In line with its commitment to reopen the varsity for offline classes in a staggered manner, the University of Kashmir Wednesday announced that the classes for 1st-semester students shall be held in offline mode from March 22, 2021.
The decision to this effect was taken pursuant to recommendations of a high-level committee of academics and officers chaired by Dean of Academic Affairs Prof Shabir A Bhat.
A notification issued by the Office of Academic Affairs said the 1st-semester classes shall be held in physical/offline mode from March 22, 2021, and the examination of all courses, including OE/GE thereof, shall also be conducted in physical/offline mode. ....

Prof Chishti Is New Dean Of KU’s School Of Open Learning
SRINAGAR: Prof Tariq Ahmad Chishti from Kashmir University’s Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) Wednesday took over as the varsity’s new Dean of the School of Open Learning.
Professor Chishti, who is presently also serving as Director DDE, has done his PhD in Mathematics from Aligarh Muslim University and authored a number of books including Solid Geometry published by the University Press, Orient Longman Blackswan. He is a member of the American Mathematical Society, Indian Mathematical Society and Ramanujan Mathematical Society.
Prof Chishti has presented research papers and contributed to academic discussions and talks in top universities of the USA, UK (Glasgow), Germany, Hungary, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and many others. His research papers have been published in international journals of mathematics and distance education while he has completed a number of research projects in these fiel ....

An official handout said that prominent female media professionals, Anuradha Bhasin, Rukhsana Jabeen, Dr Surbhi Dahiya and Shahana Butt graced the occasion and shared their experiences as media professionals
Listing the challenges women in media face while discharging their duties, Executive Editor of The Kashmir Times, Anuradha Bhasin discussed the changing face of journalism particularly in the context of Jammu and Kashmir. “The stereotyping and conflict have pushed women out of newsrooms”, she remarked.

Prof M Y Ganai Is KU’s New Dean Of Social Sciences
SRINAGAR: Professor M Y Ganai from Kashmir University’s Department of History is the varsity’s new Dean of Social Sciences from March 1, 2021. An order to his effect was issued by the Deputy Registrar Administration (Teaching Wing) on February 27, 2021.
A renowned historian, Prof. Ganai has around 30 years of teaching, research, and administrative experience. Since 2018, he has held the chair of Director at the Institute of Kashmir Studies (IKS), University of Kashmir, where he launched the MA Anthropology Program. He has also served as the Head of the Department of History (2015-18). Prof. Ganai has served as the President, Vice President and General Secretary of the Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA) at various periods in the past. ....

Kashmir University launches Online Research Management System
The RSMP developed and designed by the Directorate of Information Technology and Support Systems is an integrated portal providing an academic database of research scholars right from their admission up to the award of their PhD degree.
Addressing deans of various faculties on the occasion, Prof Talat said the university is attuning its research endeavours to address “local problems” pertaining to environment and society, including pollution, climate change impacts, Dal lake conservation, heritage conservation, mental health and drug abuse.
The university has already constituted several committees and working groups to feed its research outcomes into policy-making to develop solutions to help address these problems, he said. ....
