Gov. Tom Wolf on Tuesday tapped attorney Suzanne V. Estrella to serve as Pennsylvania Victim Advocate.
Estrella most recently served as legal director for the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape. She has more than 20 years of legal experience primarily serving survivors of sexual and domestic violence.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the commonwealth as the Victim Advocate,” Estrella said. “I look forward to collaborating with local community victim service providers to enhance services available to victims and to implement impactful, sustainable solutions to address the complexity of victimization prevalent in our communities.” ....

King said that being an avid birder since his Boy Scout days, combined with his on-again, off-again mountain-biking, trail-running, and YMCA Adventure Guides/Adventure Princess phases with his kids, has literally put him all over the map in terms of the trails and open space in North County and beyond. Chief Judge William Mudge announced Friday that the circuit judges of the Third Judicial Circuit selected Angela P. Donohoo and Ronald S. Motil to fill two associate judge vacancies.
“Angela Donohoo and Ron Motil bring a great deal of experience and professionalism to our bench,” Mudge stated in a press release. “They are great additions to the Third Judicial Circuit, and join an outstanding group of men and women who impartially and fairly administer justice for the people of Madison and Bond Counties. My colleagues and I look forward to working with both of them.”
Associate judges are picked by the circuit s elected judges. In the Third Judicial Circuit where there are nine elected circuit judge seats, applicants must receive at least five votes, otherwise balloting goes to a subsequent round. Currently there are only eight seated circuit judges due to the retirement of circuit judge Richard Tognarelli earlier ....

Muscogee (Creek) Nation Court Has Seen Criminal Filings Increase Thirtyfold Since McGirt Ruling

Since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in
McGirt v Oklahoma that the Muscogee (Creek) Nation reservation was never disestablished, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma have seen more than four times as many criminal defendants.
The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Court saw an even bigger increase in cases.
According to a currently unpublished analysis by District Tribal Court Civil Division Judge Stacy Leeds, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation court has seen 30 times as many criminal cases since the decision, along with significant increases in protective orders and traffic cases. Leeds said there’s been no accompanying increase in judges or court staff, but they’ve handled the increased workload in stride. The real challenge has been getting defendants to and from court. ....
