Mahira Irfan, 6, who studies in Class 1, has brought into the spotlight her media-shy family and the nondescript Maharajpura Colony in Srinagar’s Batamaloo area. Her video on taxing online classes during the pandemic forced the J&K administration to change its teaching policy this week.
Little Ms. Irfan’s two-storey house has turned into an overnight attraction for locals and the media. “Media men have been lining up to do her interviews,” her father, a businessman, said. “We are not used to it [interviews],” he added. ....

Srinagar, Mar 8: More than 80 per cent of students have qualified the annual class 12th examination the results of which were declared today by the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) with girls securing top positions in all four streams.
As per Board officials, a total number of 58397 students appeared in the examination out of which 46987 students qualified the examination which amounts to the total pass percentage of 80.46%.
This year, the Government Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh Srinagar has achieved the feat of bagging all the three top positions in the Home Science stream. ....

A wheelchair ride to success for this Kashmiri girl

SRINAGAR: A wheelchair-bound hearing and speech impaired girl from Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir made her parents proud by securing 90.4 per cent marks in the Class 10 exam, the results of which were declared on Friday. Tabia Iqbal belongs to Shangus in Nowgam area of Anantnag. She secured 452 out of 500 marks.
Tabia’s father Mohammad Iqbal told this newspaper that his daughter suffered the impairment since birth and due to some orthopedic problem at age 3, she was confined to the wheelchair. He said since Tabia understands only lip movement, she could not get normal schooling.
“We admitted her to a private school and the principal observed her interest in studies. The teachers would visit our home and teach her here,” he said. ....

Srinagar: The decision of Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) to suspend transportation services to the enrolled students has evoked sharp criticism from the parents.
This is pathetic says Fameeda Bano, a parent from the HMT area of Srinagar outskirts. A government employee, she said, it will be a herculean task for her to pick and drop her kids every day to school.
My husband too is a government employee. It s impossible for us to arrange transport for our kids every day, she added.
