New Ulm Police
• Responded to a three-vehicle crash with minor injuries on Highland Avenue and Oak Street at 3:03 p.m. May 5. Road conditions were wet. Sydney Owens, 16, New Ulm, was driving a 2017 Ford northbound when she said she sneezed, causing her to strike the rear end of a 2003 Toyota driven by Carter Lang, 17, New Ulm, who was also northbound. The impact caused the Toyota to strike the rear of a 2008 Dodge driven by Kaylee Hutchinson, 18, New Ulm. Owens and Hutchinson reported minor injuries. Damage was minor to all three vehicles. All three drivers wore seat belts.
• Received information about an argument over a water leak at Traulich Estates, 2201 N. Broadway, at 10:15 a.m. May 5. A report was sent to police investigators.

• Received a harassment report from a 45-year-old Redwood Falls man at 301 Water St. N. at 6:31 p.m. May 1. The man said a 48-year-old Springfield man was harassing him. He was advised to apply for a harassment restraining order. A report was done for documentation.
• Stopped an 18-year-New Ulm man for failing to signal a turn at Franklin St. N. at 1st St. N. at 7:37 p.m. May 1. Police smelled marijuana, searched the vehicle and found marijuana edibles and drug paraphernalia including two grinders. A report was sent to the Brown County Attorney’s Office.

Brown County Sheriff
• Received a report at 6:37 a.m. April 26 about a burglary that occurred sometime overnight at the Hanska Post Office, 114 Broadway. Suspects stole a print scanner, copier and keys. A value amount of the stolen items was not available.

• Responded to a single-vehicle crash without injuries on the 400 block, 1st North Street at 8:48 a.m. April 26. A 2019 Volvo semi and trailer driven by Linda L. Ernster, 55, St. Louis Park, became lodged under the Marktplatz Mall overpass. Damage was significant to the top of the semi and front of the trailer.
• Received a report about a burglary at 1001 Minnesota St. N. at 6:03 pm. April 25. The front door of the residence was kicked in during the day. A damage estimate was not available.

Winthrop man faces felony threats of violence charge | News, Sports, Jobs

NEW ULM A 54-year-old rural Winthrop man was arrested April 23 near New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) after police noticed a particular sign among several messages on the outside of his vehicle.
A felony threats of violence and misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge were filed in Brown County District Court Monday against Ronald H. Schoenborn, 52895 330th Street, Winthrop. Bail without conditions was set at $100,000 ($10,000 with conditions) Monday. Conditions include no leaving Minnesota without written, court approval, no contact with victims, not entering New Ulm Medical Center except for a medical emergency, and no threats of violence. A court hearing was set for 9:30 a.m. May 4.

• Received a call at 8:42 a.m. March 8 from a Cottonwood Township resident who said a number of fired shotgun shells were found near a mailbox at 11005 170th Street. A report was done for documentation.
• Received a possible HRO violation report regarding a 20-year-old New Ulm man in Brown County Jail custody. A report was sent to the Brown County Attorney’s Office.
• Received a domestic report at 10:02 p.m. March 7 regarding a 24-year-old man and 23-year-old woman, both of New Ulm. The man claimed he had a bloody nose but declined medical attention. The woman reported having bruises. A report was sent to the New Ulm City Attorney’s Office.

• Received a cell phone theft report Jan. 19 from 826 Sunrise Dr. The cell phone was valued at $101. A report was sent to the Brown County Attorney’s Office.
• Received an harassment report at on the 1300 block, Summit Ave. at 5:50 p.m. Feb. 23. Police were told an harassing text message was sent from a female’s 24-year-old Fargo, N.D. boyfriend to her family. A report was sent for documentation and for an extra patrol.

Following 'death party' for wife, Minnesota man charged with murder

SEARLES, Minn. A man who held a “death party” for his wife now is charged with murder after an autopsy showed his wife died of a methamphetamine overdose.
Duane Arden Johnson, 58, was charged with criminal neglect in the January death of his wife, Debra Lynn Johnson, 69. The Brown County Attorney s Office added a third-degree murder charge on Monday, March 11.
A Brown County Sheriff s Office investigator received Debra Johnson s autopsy results last month. The cause of death is listed as methamphetamine toxicity, according to the new charging document.
Duane Johnson called authorities to his home Jan. 24 and they found Debra Johnson dead and wrapped in a sheet. Duane Johnson told authorities his wife had been in a nursing home and she begged him to take her home to die.

New Ulm Police
• Responded to a one-vehicle crash without injuries on ice and frost-covered Highland Ave. N. near New Ulm High School at 7:56 a.m. Jan. 5. A 2006 Chrysler Town & Country driven by Josiah D. Stoering, 40, Courtland, was northbound on Highland, said he got too close to the curb, overcorrected and went back into and over the curb, hitting a median light pole. Stoering wore a seat belt. Damage was severe to the front end of the Chrysler. The city-owned light pole was damaged.
• Received a call from a woman on the 1300 block of S. Broadway who said her 29-year-old son was suicidal. The man was transported to New Ulm Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. A report was sent to Brown County Human Services.
