Grayson County said goodbye to some long-term employees in 2020 [Herald Democrat]
Many of the people in key leadership positions, both elected and not, at Grayson County have held those positions for years if not decades and are beginning to retire. In 2020, the county lost leaders in the Information Technology Department, Purchasing Department and at the District Attorney’s Office.
Maybe the most noticeable retirement saw the passing of the torch at the head of the county’s Information Technology Department when Ken Miller retired in September.
After 23 years with the county, Miller left the county’s information technology in the hands of his handpicked crew. ....

“Watching the growth over the last 20 plus years has been fascinating,” he said in an email the week before he left. “I ve been very lucky to have a very dedicated, efficient and cohesive team to work with through that growth. Grayson County has been in the spotlight a number of times for successfully leveraging technology to improve processes ....

Thirty-two years to the day after the terrorist bombing of a Pan Am jet over Scotland killed 270 people, including 190 Americans and 11 residents in the town of Lockerbie, federal investigators today announced charges against a Libyan man they say was involved in making the bomb.
The investigation has been open for more than three decades, even after a Libyan intelligence officer was convicted in 2001 on 270 counts of murder in the case in a Scottish court. The FBI, working closely with authorities in Scotland, has continued to pursue leads over the years pointing to others that may have been involved in the attack. ....

County Probation Department Checks on Welfare of Probationers and Their Families

Wellness bags were handed out to each family and to children in the home. The bags included facemasks, hand sanitizer, sanitizing cloths, first-aid kits, thermometers, stress balls, and brochures for resources available in the community and Probation Department.
Child wellness bags were holiday-themed and included popcorn, coloring books, crayons, puzzles and candy canes.
The combined effort was a success a total of 36 locations were visited with 30 contacts made and zero arrests. Officers handed out 43 family and child wellness bags. Twenty deputy probation officers and three victim advocates from the district attorney’s office participated.

Just after 4:30 a.m. Dec. 13 a Fairfax County Police officers found a car that was stopped in the roadway in the 5800 block of Backlick Road in Springfield. The officer turned on his emergency lights to check on the driver. As the officer got back into his car, a suspected drunk driver rear-ended him, causing his cruiser to hit the car in front of him. The officer and the suspected drunk driver were treated for injuries that were not life threatening. The suspected drunk driver was arrested.
