From April 29 – May 5, the state reported 4,384 new COVID-19 cases, compared to 4,290 the week prior, a 2% increase. New COVID-19 cases have dropped 90% since the peak in mid-November.
There were 418 new people hospitalized with COVID-19 this week, the same as last week. New hospitalizations have dropped 74% since the peak back in mid-November.
The total COVID-19 inpatient population dropped from 351 to 331. The COVID-19 inpatient population has dropped 85% from the peak in mid-November.
ICU patients dropped from 112 to 99. The number of ICU patients has dropped 78% since the peak in mid-November.
In the past week, the state reported 56 new deaths, compared to 86 the week prior. The number of weekly deaths has dropped 87% since it peaked at 423 during the week ending on December 22nd. ....

Gov. Kay Ivey's 'Safer Apart' COVID-19 plan is set to expire at end of May

Governor Kay Ivey’s “safer apart” plan, currently suggests wearing masks and social distancing, is now set to expire at the end of the month. The asssociated State of Emergency will end in July.
The plan suggests COVID-19 precautions, but doesn’t mandate them. While this goes on, Alabamians still lags behind most of the nation when it comes to vaccinations. Barely 30 percent of state residents have received at least one shot. Alabama health care providers are also concerned about a drop in demand for vaccination. UAB’s Dr. Sarah Nafziger said her hospital now offers shots without appointments needed. ....

From April 1 – 7, the state reported 4,602 new COVID-19 cases, compared to 3,296 the week prior. New COVID-19 cases have dropped 90% since the peak in mid-November.
There were 296 new hospitalizations with COVID-19 this past week, compared to 344 the week prior. New hospitalizations have dropped 81% since the peak back in mid-November.
The total COVID-19 inpatient population statewide increased from 253 to 275. Statewide hospitalizations have dropped 88% from the all-time high of 2,278 during the week ending November 17th.
Meanwhile, the state’s total hospital capacity is over 11,500 inpatients. There were 2,055 immediately available beds on March 31.
In the past week, the state reported 31 new deaths, compared to 25 the week prior. The number of new deaths has dropped 93% since it peaked at 423 during the week ending on December 22nd. ....
