Taliban could take over Kabul in 90 days - U.S. intelligence

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Taliban could isolate Afghanistan s capital Kabul in 30 days and potentially take it over in 90 days, a U.S. defense official told Reuters on Wednesday, citing a U.S. intelligence assessment. Taliban fighters have taken control of eight provincial capitals in six days, a pace that has surprised U.S. officials. Taliban forces now control 65% of Afghanistan and have taken or threaten to take 11 provincial capitals, a senior EU official said on Tuesday. The U.S. official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the new assessment followed the rapid gains the Taliban had been making around Afghanistan. But this is not a foregone conclusion, the official added, saying that the Afghan security forces could reverse the momentum by putting up more resistance against the insurgent group. U.S. State Dept approves potential $3.5 billion helicopter sale to Australia- Pentagon

By Mike Stone WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department has approved the potential sale of 29 Boeing Co AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to Australia in a deal valued at up to $3.5 billion, the Pentagon said on Thursday. The sale is one of a string of Australian purchases in April that included 12 MQ-9B drones and related equipment for about $1.6 billion, $1.6 billion in tanks and heavy armored combat vehicles and four CH-47F cargo helicopters for as much as $259 million. Thursday s package would include the choppers, 69 spare engines and night vision equipment, as well as munitions such as 85 AGM-114R Hellfire missiles, support equipment, spares and technical support, the Pentagon said. The Pentagon s Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of the possible sale on Thursday. LEXINGTON, Ky., June 1, 2021 /PRNewswire/ U.S. Medical Glove Company, signed a $63.6 million dollar contract with the Department of Defense (DOD), on behalf of Health and Human Services (HHS), to expand the domestic industrial base for nitrile glove production in the United States.
This effort allows US Medical Glove to increase production capacity of nitrile glove production by 2.31B million gloves per year by May 2023.
