The biggest challenge will be in rural areas, especially in countries lacking infrastructure.

How it started On Dec. 13, America rejoiced and logistics professionals flexed as the first rollout of coronavirus vaccines departed from Pfizer’s facility in Portage, Michigan. Groups of onlookers showed up to cheer on the UPS and Boyle Transportation trucks as they made their way toward airports and distribution centers around the country. FedEx (NYSE: FDX) and
Subcontractors, such as Boyle Transportation and
XPO Logistics (NYSE: XPO) for UPS, are also helping transport the vaccines to airports and other transfer points. Perna said he isn t involved with them, letting the prime contractors coordinate and hold their partners  accountable.
The plan is to keep delivering through Thursday, but if states ask for shipments to meet a need, industry is ready to go with delivery on Christmas Day to make sure everyone has access to the vaccine, Perna said.
He praised the Herculean effort of the manufacturers, McKesson and the express carriers.
This weekend when most of America tried to take a couple days off, these industry partners worked to make sure vaccines were properly stored, packed, labeled and moved into distribution places so that we can deliver on a regular basis as orders occur, Perna said.  ....

COVID-19 Vaccines Are On The Way, Thanks To Truck Drivers | Go By Truck Global News


The nation’s first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine were loaded onto semi-trucks and shipped out early Sunday morning.
Three FedEx, UPS, and Boyle Transportation trucks pulled out of the parking lot of the Pfizer manufacturing plant in Portage, Michigan to cheering crowds of local residents. Each rig was accompanied by an unmarked car.
The 1.95 million doses are expected to arrive in all 50 states early Monday. 84,825 of these doses will be staying in Michigan.
Each vial of the vaccine contains five doses, and 975 vials fit in each insulated box. 400 insulated boxes were loaded onto each truck.
Pfizer’s vaccine must be kept at minus 94 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, so shipping it out is a challenge. However, the vaccine can be kept safely at 36-46 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 24 hours or at room temperature for no more than two hours after it thaws. ....
