Letters: Mandatory quarantine should be imposed until at least a month after we have all been vaccinated


THE arrival of the P1 Brazilian variant shows the UK Government’s country list quarantine has failed in exactly the ways it was warned it would. People who have been in red list countries continue to enter the UK via third countries, including via Ireland into Scotland, using the Common Travel Area loophole the UK Government, which has reserved power over air transport, left in guidelines.
The P1 variant has been found in at least 15 countries that aren’t on the red list, so more can arrive from them. Even the half-useless quarantine list system was brought in too late to stop some of the known cases arriving. ....

Lawyer struck off over role in £1.6m property fraud scheme

Craxton, who qualified in November 1983, was granted immunity from prosecution along with other lawyers after agreeing to give evidence against the McLarens during their trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
The case became Scotland’s longest ever trial and saw McLaren convicted of 29 charges and jailed for 11-and-a-half years.
Craxton, of Dumbarton, had removed himself from the roll of solicitors but the case went before the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal (SSDT) after the Law Society decided they still had to act.
The SSDT panel ruled he should never be allowed to return to the profession and branded his action “serious and reprehensible”.  ....
