Palo Pinto County Emergency Services District 2 will be implementing a 10 cent per $100 valuation ad valorem tax to provide 24/7 coverage for its residents year-round.
ESD 2, which contracts with the Santo Volunteer Fire and EMS Department, provides service to approximately 90,000 residents in the communities of Santo, Brazos and Lone Camp throughout 150 square miles.

MINERAL WELLS â A Mineral Wells community blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, at Palo Pinto General Hospital, 400 SW 25th Ave., and later that same day from 3-7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 108 NW 4th Ave., in the family life center. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Colleen Horan at (817) 343-1410.
The two drives are sponsored by Carter BloodCare.
Appointments are encouraged and blood donors can complete the medical history questionnaire online on the day of donation, before arriving to give blood. Donors and staff are required to wear masks and surfaces are cleaned between each donation. ....

Winter storm Uri that swept through Texas has put a temporary halt on COVID-19 vaccinations and dose shipments this week.
Texas was set to receive 407,650 first doses of the vaccine from the federal government this week but the shipment was postponed on Feb. 12 in anticipation of the bad weather, according to an article by

âLocal providers have postponed vaccine clinics because it is not safe for people to be out across much of Texas. Vaccination will resume as soon as conditions permit,â Texas Department of State Health Services spokesman Chris Van Deusen told

With many questions still surrounding the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, Palo Pinto County officials are desperately reaching out for help to get more.
âWeâve been working, reaching out to anybody we can to try to find out about getting more vaccine and I hope you all realize the shortage that there is nationwide,â Palo Pinto County Judge Shane Long said at this weekâs commissioners court meeting. âI was on a conference call with the department of emergency management and also the department of state health services last week and this week I think weâre supposed to be getting 332,000 doses for the entire state of Texas, which when youâre talking about 29 million people is not much.â ....
