Two new food trucks by locally based chefs are now parked alongside the Alohilani Resort s Greetings From Hawaii mural.
The Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach appointed Frederic Hoffmann executive chef and announced the addition of new dining options at the Oahu property.
Hoffman comes to Alohilani with more than two decades of experience in hotel restaurants, including previous stops at Trace at the W San Francisco, Chefs Club at St. Regis Aspen and Kauai Grill, a Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant at the St. Regis Princeville.
One of Hoffmann s first projects is revamping the menu at Swell, the resort s poolside, rooftop restaurant, including the introduction of items such as ahi tartare, crispy pork belly, and seasonal charcuterie board.

Except this time.
I walked down a side street Kealohilani Avenue, to be specific, which connects Kalākaua and Kūhiō avenues and noticed a food truck parked against the backside of the ʻAlohilani Resort Waikīkī Beach.
There was no one around. I assumed it was an old truck, closed and parked here, a victim of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Then I spied on my Instagram a couple of influencers had already posted about it.

Remember Sundays last summer, when Kalākaua Avenue closed to cars and locals cruised down on bikes and Biki, rollerblades and roller skates, and saw Waikīkī anew, devoid of tourists? As the pandemic lessens its grip and tourism returns, it’s unlikely we’ll ever experience Waikīkī like that again. But there are other reasons to return: It is currently the only place you’ll find Piccola Onda and its prepared dishes by Andrea Onetti of Onda Pasta, and Double Fat Ice Cream, Brandon Lee’s old-fashioned(ish) ice cream bar. Up against the backside of Alohilani Resort, on Kealohilani Avenue, and just a block from the beach, the Piccola Onda truck and Double Fat Ice Cream kiosk provide an oasis with a shady, faux-lawn outdoor dining nook.
