The pilot of an F-16 Fighting Falcon that crashed earlier this week in Michigan s Upper Peninsula has been found dead, the Air National Guard announced Thursday.
The aircraft, assigned to the Wisconsin Air National Guard s 115th Fighter Wing, out of Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison, crashed around 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Hiawatha National Forest, roughly 300 miles northeast of the base, officials said in a Facebook post. ....

U.S. aircraft carried out two strikes Thursday against a stronghold of al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab rebels in Somalia, days after President Donald Trump ordered a withdrawal of the estimated 800 U.S. troops in the East African nation, according to U.S. Africa Command.

Weeks after the U.S. Air Force proved it could mount an advanced stealth cruise missile externally on the B-1B Lancer for the first time, it has taken the next step, test-firing an inert missile from under the B-1 s fuselage.
The 419th Flight Test Squadron out of Edwards Air Force Base, California launched a practice round of the AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile, known as the JASSM, from the bomber, according to a news release. The news of the test, conducted at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, Dec. 4, was first reported by Defense News. ....

In an 8-0 opinion issued Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that military personnel accused of a rape between 1986 and 2006 a period previously subject to a five-year statute of limitations can be charged for the crime.
At issue in U.S. v. Briggs is a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, or CAAF, to overturn three rape convictions that occurred within that 20-year period. ....
